What Will It Take To Make the Best Homemade Spaghetti Sauce?

This easy homemade spaghetti sauce is delicious with or without meat! If you are going to add meat, consider ground turkey. It’s leaner than beef but still gives this sauce a hearty base!

  • In your Instant Pot, pour in 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and turn on the “sauté” function.
  • Then, add ground turkey and brown until cooked through.
  • Next, add chopped garlic and onion and stir.
  • Add more extra virgin olive oil and then toss in the sliced carrots and celery. Stir.
  • Add San Marzano tomatoes and tomato paste.
  • Add seasoning.
  • Add basil.
  • Add honey, this balances a bit the acidity from the tomatoes.
  • Close the lid and turn off the saute function. Close the steam valve. Press “soup” and set the timer for 30 minutes.
  • While the sauce is cooking, you can cook your noodles!
  • When Instant Pot is finished cooking it will beep.
  • Allow to vent naturally or manually. Ladle sauce over noodles and enjoy!

If you love an easy sauce for pasta but are still trying to figure out how to make the best homemade spaghetti sauce without spending 8 hours in the kitchen, this post is for you!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 6 cloves garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 large yellow onion diced
  • 2 large carrots diced
  • 4 stalks celery  sliced
  • 3 28 oz San Marzano tomatoes cans
  • 1 tsp Italian dried spices
  • 2 oz fresh basil 
  • 1/2 can tomato paste
  • salt to taste or about 2 tsp
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes or more if you like your spaghetti sauce spicy
  • 1 1/2 tsp honey raw honey is best
  • 16 oz spaghetti noodles whole wheat is best

Instructions
 

Make the Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

  • In your Instant Pot, pour in 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and turn on the "sauté" function.
    2 tbsp olive oil
  • Add ground turkey and brown until cooked through, about 10 minutes.
    1 lb ground turkey
  • Add chopped garlic and onion and stir, cooking for about 2 minutes.
    6 cloves garlic cloves, 1 large yellow onion
  • Add 1 more tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil and then toss in the sliced carrots and celery. Stir, cooking for 2-3 more minutes.
    2 tbsp olive oil, 2 large carrots, 4 stalks celery 
  • Add San Marzano tomatoes cans and tomato paste.
    3 28 oz San Marzano tomatoes cans, 1/2 can tomato paste
  • Add seasoning including Italian spices, salt, ground pepper, and red pepper flakes.
    1 tsp Italian dried spices, salt, Ground black pepper, 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Add fresh basil. 
    2 oz fresh basil 
  • Add honey.
    1 1/2 tsp honey
  • Close the lid and turn off the saute function. Close the steam valve. Press "soup" and set the timer for 30 minutes. 
  • When Instant Pot is finished cooking it will beep. Allow to vent naturally or manually.

Make the Noodles

  • While the sauce is cooking, you can cook your noodles according to the package directions on the stove. 
    16 oz spaghetti noodles

Serve!

  • Ladle sauce over noodles and enjoy!
