What Do I Need to Do to Make Crescent Dough Cinnamon Rolls?
First, Make the Crescent Roll Dough
- In a large bowl, or your kitchen aid mixer with the dough hook attached, dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm water.
- Add butter, milk, egg, salt, sugar and whole wheat white flour. Turn the mixer on to begin beating the flour into dough. Add the rest of the flour and let the mixer do its magic until your dough is a soft round ball.
- Place your dough ball onto a floured surface and knead dough for 6-8 minutes. Place it in a bowl lightly sprayed with olive oil cooking oil. Flip it so the olive oil coats the top and bottom of the dough ball. Cover with a warm towel and let rise about 1 hour.
Next, Make the Filling
- While the dough is rising, make the filling. In a bowl mix together a very soft (slightly melted) butter, light brown sugar, LorAnn Super Strength Princess Cake Flavor, and ground cinnamon.
Then, Fill the Crescent Rolls and Bake Them
- Once done rising, take the dough out. Punch it down and divide it in half. On a floured surface, roll out each half into a 12 inch circle. Then cut the dough like a pizza into 12 pie pieces.
- Roll up pieces from the wide end and place with the rolled side down so it doesn’t unroll in the oven slightly apart on baking sheets covered in parchment paper. Curve ends to form crescents. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°. Bake until golden brown, 20-24 minutes. Remove parchment paper from pans and place on counter to cool (or wire rack if you have it).
Last, Frost the Crescent Dough Cinnamon Rolls
- While the rolls are cooling, in a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, melted butter, softened cream cheese and LorAnn Princess Super Strength Princess Cake Flavor until smooth. Spread frosting over rolls and serve warm!
Make ahead the dough and fill these crescent rolls the night before to have easy crescent dough cinnamon rolls to bake the next day!

Where To Find King Arthur Whole Wheat White Flour
You can find King Arthur flour at some local grocery stores including Meijer and Whole Foods. It is a bit pricier than regular white flour or regular wheat flour.
King Arthur sells whole wheat white flour in non-organic for a lower (more reasonable) price, but I’m including the organic flour here so you can see what the packaging looks like.
If you are looking for a whole wheat option but would like to save a bit of money, try the pastry whole wheat flour at Whole Foods.
If you’re unable to find King Arthur Flour at your local grocery stores, Bob’s Red Mill Whole Wheat Flour is a great alternative. You can easily grab this flour from select retailers like Kroger or Whole Foods.
Use Your KitchenAid Mixer for the Crescent Dough
You can use your KitchenAid mixer for the crescent dough. No worries if you don’t have a KitchenAid mixer, a bowl and spoon will do the job just fine. It took me nearly 40 years to get a stand mixer!
If you’re anything like me and dreaming of that gorgeous stand mixer to grace your kitchen, you can find a KitchenAid one in white similar to what I have on Amazon, here.
Make sure you get one with the dough hook!
Sometimes Macy’s has sales on KitchenAid and other stand mixers. That is where we scooped up ours. You can check Macy’s for a stand mixer here.
Or, if you want to go direct to the source and find all the unique colors and attachments, you can find a stand mixer here at KitchenAid.
If you don’t have a stand mixer, you still will want to use a hand blender to beat the egg. A hand mixer makes the crescent dough super light and fluffy! Who dosn’t love fluffy, delicious crescent dough cinnamon rolls? I think the answer is no one!
This one above is most like the handheld mixer we have. It’s under $25 and has worked perfectly for about 20 years! You can find it here on Amazon.
