Grilled Roasted Brussel Sprouts Recipe

First, grill the Brussel sprouts separately. Wash and cut them up and place them on aluminum foil with some olive oil, salt, and ground pepper. That goes directly onto the grill, making clean up as easy as folding and tossing the foil into your recycling or trash can.

Savory Oven Roasted Brussel Sprouts

Instead of using the grill, you can also roast Brussel sprouts in the oven. Same steps, except the foil goes on a baking sheet instead of directly onto the grill.

Caramelize Brussel sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Want to add a bit more flavor and plant points? Thinly slice a red onion and toss it with your brussel sprouts on the baking sheet before placing in the oven.

Crispy Air Fryer Roasted Brussel Sprouts

If you love crispy roasted vegetables, you can use your air fryer instead of roasting the Brussel sprouts on the grill or in the oven! This is also a good option if you don’t have enough room on the grill. Or, if you live where it’s cold A LOT OF THE TIME, like me, in the winter.

Air Fried Brussel sprouts entail the same directions if you have an oven with the air fry mode. Just air fry at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. Or, if you have an air fryer, place the brussels in the basket after being tossed with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and air fry for 15 minutes.

Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Garlic

This recipe does not include garlic, but, you could add it! Add garlic cloves to the roasted Brussel sprouts on the grill. Just mince 4 cloves of garlic and toss them with the Brussel sprouts, olive oil, salt, and pepper.

The Benefits of Eating Garlic Everyday

Garlic’s superhero allicin is one of the primary components driving its health benefits. When garlic is cut, crushed, minced, or chewed it activates the alliinase inside. Activated alliinase creates a chemical reaction and becomes allicin.

Garlic Allicin Benefits

Allicin provides us with many of garlic’s benefits. Who knew this little superhero was responsible for so much immune system boosting! You can check to see if allicin is in any of the recipes in Kait’s Cupboard by looking at the micro superheroes featured at the top of the post.

Chop and Stop! Cut garlic and onions first and wait 10 minutes for the allicin to form. Waiting 10 minutes allows the alliinase inside garlic to turn into allicin which SERIOUSLY supports over overall health.

Did you know honey is actually good for you? Treat yourself to raw honey and feel good about it because it is full of gut healthy benefits for your immune system, nervous system, and so much more!

Gut Health Secret

Choose raw honey to maximize your health benefit. Look for the True Source label on your honey to make sure that it is the real deal and not tampered with or with processed additives.

Raw Honey Decreases Inflammation

Raw honey is full of antioxidants including polyphenols which have been shown to regulate blood sugar among other things (Chávez-Mendoza & Sánchez, 2017). Polyphenols are anti-inflammatory and therefore can help decrease your risk for chronic disease (Ahmed et al., 2018). For example, raw honey has been found to protect people’s risk for diabetes. Additionally, raw honey has been found to strengthen people’s respiratory system, gut, heart health, and nervous system (Samarghandian et al., 2017).

Are you at risk for osteoporosis? There are so many risk factors for low bone density. If you are a white, European descent female, the answer is yes. Have you taken birth control? You’re probably at risk too. Brussel sprouts are an excellent source of vitamin K which has been found to protect against osteoporosis (Link, 2022). In fact, one half cup of cooked Brussel sprouts contains 91% of your daily dose of vitamin K!

This warm Brussel sprout salad recipe uses gouda as a cheese topping. However, you could substitute parmesan if you prefer! Just take a block of parmesan, or shaved parmesan and sprinkle it into the salad before serving. Toss gently and voila! Super easy parmesan roasted Brussel sprouts!

Parmesan is home to many micro superheroes that, when they enter our gut, provide significant benefit. For example, Bifidobacterium bifidum is found within parmesan. Bifidobacterium bifidum benefits your body keeping away harmful bacteria (Callaghan & Sinderhen, 2016). As we get older, we have less Bifidobacteria bifidum, on average. Unfortunately, as it decreases, other bacteria increase, some of which may be associated with cancer risk and decreased liver function (Kleesen et al., 1997).
