Finding the best immersion blender for your cooking style and kitchen is at the top of the to do list. It can make your life SO MUCH EASIER. I waited way too long to get one thinking I didn’t want anymore kitchen stuff, it would take up too much room, and that I really wouldn’t use it that much. Wrong!
This post is all about the best immersion blender for every kitchen.
All About the Immersion Blender
An immersion blender is a handheld blender that can be immersed into something. Go figure! I didn’t get one for about 15 years and that was a big mistake. I literally use it ALL THE TIME.
Immersion Blender Uses
You can use the immersion blender to blend any soup, sauce, smoothie, bean mixture, and more! It can puree, lightly blend, or mix. The top easily snaps onto the base. It immerses down into whatever you’re mixing, hence the name!
If you are looking for a convenient way to save time and reduce the mess in your kitchen, then investing in the best immersion blender is an excellent choice. Instead of having to transfer hot soups, smoothies, beans, sauces, etc from one pot or pan to a blender or food processor, you can just use the immersion blender! It’s fast and effective and makes blending tasks easier than ever before.
Do you need to blend your savory spaghetti sauce to the perfect consistency? Or maybe whip up a creamy and delicious hummus? An immersion blender is your key to success! At the end of this post, I am sharing links to several recipes featured on Kait’s Cupboard that utilize an immersion blender for maximum flavor and texture.
Creating a soup that is meant to be perfectly mixed yet still retain some chunky pieces can be difficult without the proper tool. An immersion blender is an absolute must when it comes to achieving this desired consistency, and without one, I’m not sure it would even be possible!
Reviews
I have spent countless years in the kitchen trying to puree soup using either a hand mixer or a food processor, both of which were not effective in achieving the desired results. It was frustrating and time-consuming, but I persevered until I finally found a better solution.
Immersion Blender vs. Blender
Ha! This is an immensely important section here, and I’m am pumped to share all the crucial information on how to safely avoid burning yourself and why one simply cannot possibly attempt immersion blending without the indispensable tool of an immersion blender!
But It’s Too Expensive
For years I avoided spending the money thinking it was too expensive to buy an immersion blender and that I could do the same thing with a handheld mixer. Like, you know the ones you use to mix cookie batter? Well, let me just say, that I was wrong. Hand mixers do not quite do the job, leaving weird chunks and making everything else soupy. VERY SOUPY. It’s not a good look if you are the soup.
Can’t I Just Use the Food Processor?
Meanwhile, food processors acting as an immersion blender require small batches and, if you’re anything like me, lead to hand burns. How? Well trying to get hot steaming sauce or soup from a pot into a food processor is tricky!
Additionally, have you ever noticed that little line on the food processor that says liquid max? I usually ignore this line thinking it’s a suggestion rather than an ACTUAL MAX. Again, wrong. When the liquid goes above this line it will spray up and out and also somehow leak out the bottom of the food processor. Hot leaking sauce, soup, or whatever it is, all over the counter, floor, and probably you. Insert many expletives. And, hand burns.
Blending in Batches is Time Consuming
You will likely give into needing to transfer much smaller amounts of soup into the processor and blend in batches. Which is ANNOYING.
Using a hand mixer or a food processor inevitably leads to sprayed soup on the counter, your shirt, usually hand burns.
Funny, it turns out hot liquid spraying out of a pot is not ideal!
Dr. Kait
However, it turns out there is another way! And, it’s not a blender, which would actually work too, but then you have to pick up the pot, transfer to the blender, and blend. Probably in batches because your soup is likely larger than your blender. Again, high probability of hand burns.
To summarize, hand mixers leave chunks of soup unable to blend, and make the rest of the pot largely runny. Meanwhile, food processors are not actually meant to blend liquid. At least large amounts. They are in fact, for blending food. While this may seem obvious to those of you who follow directions, for me this was a lightbulb moment.
Best Immersion Blender
The award goes to Amazon. The Amazon immersion blender is reasonably priced and does everything I need to do. It is also pretty easy to clean. I love it in white, but it comes in other colors. It’s $30, small, and easy to store.
1. Amazon
You can also find immersion blenders at local brick and mortar shops as well. Check out a few highlighted below.
Walmart
You can pick one up at Walmart online or, order and pick it up curbside! Walmart sells a KitchenAid mixer. It is again, super basic, but low cost at $30, and does the job.
Kitchenaid
Costco
Costco has a few including the Braun. It comes in at about $100 and has a few more bells and whistles including multiple attachments. The Costco sold Braun is a slightly older model. If you want the newest Braun model, you can pick it up on Amazon or Williams Sonoma.
Braun
The Braun includes a two cup food processor, whisk, and beaker. I already have a food processor which is way larger, so for me, this is less relevant. If you live in a small space or do not have a large family, this could work for you.
Cordless Immersion Blender
Do you want a cordless version? I feel like this makes sense if you don’t have a lot of counter space, or have a floating island that can move. Or, maybe you have counter space but you don’t have a plug nearby. Whatever the reason, Cuisinart has a nice cordless immersion blender. Bonus, without the cord you could bring this to a tailgate or camping!
Best Cordless Immersion Blender
If you’re thinking the cordless is your jam, Cuisinart has a sweet little unit that costs less than $80.
The Ninja Immersion Blender
The Ninja comes with a ton of stuff. It’s stocked with a hand mixer and a three cup blending carafe. To use, you change out the blender base with these multiple attachments. It definitely has the most stuff for the price.
Recipes
There are so many way to use your immersion blender in recipes. I use the it in split pea soup to make it the perfect consistency of creamy with a bit of carrot pieces still left. This ranks high on kid favorite meals.
This kitchen essential is key to making almond bean dip with Northern beans in the Instant Pot. It also is how to get creamy refried beans. Before owning an immersion blender, I used to use a potato masher for my beans in the Instant Pot. While it did work, it did not give the beans a creamy consistency like the blender does.
You can use it to make hummus without the extra step of transferring batches of chickpeas to the food processor or blender. In fact, I was recently traveling for work and did not have an immersion blender in my Air B and B. I used the blender to make hummus and it was TOO CREAMY. Almost soupy. The immersion blender gives you control of where you mix/blend and how much. You can’t really get that with a food processor, regular blender, or hand mixer. I am linking many of the recipes below. Take a look!
