HEALTHY MICRO SUPERSTARS FEATURED IN Etna Rosso Wine
Is Etna Rosso Gut Healthy?
Red wine comes from grapes so I am giving it one plant point. There is so much conflicting information on whether or not wine is healthy for your gut. Everyone agrees any alcohol in excess is definitely NOT healthy for you or your gut. If you’re like me, you might be thinking okay, but IS WINE HEALTHY????!!!
Yes! Doctors agree that red wine could improve your heart health! Red wine contains antioxidants that have been found to help prevent heart disease (Mayo Clinic, 2022). Doctors believe that these antioxidants may help decrease the bad cholesterol in your body and increase the good cholesterol.
How Can Red Wine Benefit Your Gut?
So, how exactly could red wine actually benefit your gut health? Red wine contains polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. Polyphenols protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart. Resveratrol is a type of polyphenol found in wine, particularly red wine. It can help prevent damage to blood vessels and may keep away blood clots (Mayo Clinic, 2022).
It definitely is not recommended to drink wine just to improve your heart health. You can eat grapes and also get some of the antioxidant benefits. However, if you are already drinking a glass of wine tonight, try a glass of red! You might just improve your meal and your heart!

A pretty yet spicy bouquet of peppery wild herbs, roses and young strawberries rises from the 2019 Etna Rosso Ciauria. It’s fleshy in feel yet full of energy, as ripe red berries and minerals cascade across a core of zesty acidity. There’s so much lively personality and vivid fruit here as the Ciauria finishes with fresh blueberry and blackberries under an air of wet stone. Drinking window: 2021 – 2025

Traditional use artisanal production methods, similar to wine and have a long history of the grapes from which they are produced. Commercial balsamic vinegar also known as balsamic vinegar of Modena must be aged for at least two months and up to three years (Ho et al., 2017).
A Little History about Etna Rosso Wine
I’m all about the drama and Ciaurìa has it going back to a mythical time before the city of Troy meets Helen and their end. The Etna Rosso vineyard sits along the most active volcano on Earth (Platts, 2020).
Grown on Mount Etna, the vineyard sits about 800 feet above sea level. Etna Rosso’s soil is rich in magnesium, calcium, and sand. These rich minerals combine with arid soil that easily drains providing fabulous wine making conditions, and I mean fabulous.
Mount Etna itself stands nearly 11,000 feet and lies on the eastern coast of Sicily. This year alone it erupted and shot ash more than 6 miles into the air. Eruptions at Mount Etna are anything but new. Volcanic eruptions have been recorded since 425 B.C. (Fox, 2022). Perhaps there is more to the story? Bring on the drama.
Etna Rosso Wine Folly
It turns out that Etna Rosso wine and Greek mythology are related! Zeus, yeah, that guy that wields thunder and rules the Greek gods, he may be the reason Etna Rosso wine is SO GOOD!
Zeus and his wife, Helen, had a son Hephaestus. Well, of course there is a he said she said on this whole thing, but Hephaestus somehow got himself on the wrong side of Zeus and Helen. Bad idea. Zeus flung Hephaestus from Mount Olympus and relegated him to the mortal land, the island of Sicily. There, at Mount Etna he began one of the first forges, becoming the blacksmithing god of sorts.
Sicilian Wine and Greek Gods
Did I mention there is also a deadly monster buried under there? Zues trapped Typhon, a monster with 100 dragon heads, in Mount Etna. At under $25 a bottle this wine comes at a deal subduing nature and beast alike.
